Things Will be Smooth Sailing!

May 25, 2009
Dearest Fam — How are ya all???  I hope all is well at home and that you aren’t missing me too bad!  If you are just think back to the times where I drive you all crazy and you will be glad we are temporarily separated!  That’s what I do!
Mom!  Oh my stars guess what!  I got your package!  That was super fast!  I can’t even put in words how happy it made me!  The stuff inside was everything my pooch was craving and more.  Thanks for the ex-lax too!  Hopefully from now on things will be smooth sailing!  I love the conference talks and the mosquito net!  I just love it all!!  Thank you sooo much!  It gave me a good boost because I have been kind of down on myself lately.  Mainly because of this whole language thing.  I just don’t see how I am ever going to learn it!  And I know that that is definitely the thing I shouldn’t be thinking!  So I will continue to build up my faith and have patience with myself!  It’s definitely a challenge though.  I do know that this is where I am supposed to be though.  I am being tried and tested and stretched in every way possible.  I’m in the refiners fire and I know that these challenges are necessary for my growth . . . I just have to keep that in mind during the hard times.
I’m so excited for Brady . . . Or Elder Johnson.  I have been thinking about him a lot.  Like he has now already given his farewell talk and he will be set apart probably tomorrow and on and on.  It feels like just yesterday I did that whole thing!  You want to know something else that is cool — no matter what time it is there will always be a Johnson preaching the gospel!  Cool huh?  While he sleeps I will be out and about and while I sleep he will be up and at it.  Our family will be blessed at all times!!!  Mom send me his updates too so I don’t get out of the loop.
Hey mom here is some random trivia that I thought you might enjoy.  The branch I am serving in just had a youth temple trip in Manilla and guess who was there doing baptisms for the dead??? — David Archuleta!!!  Funny huh?  My branch president did confirmations for him.  Speaking of baptisms for the dead I have another random story.  So mom you know how you put a piece of newspaper in the package you sent me?  Well I pulled it out and was reading through it and there is an article about Mormons and Barack Obamas mom being Mormon — weird huh?  I will attach the article to this letter.
This past week as I have mentioned was one of the more difficult ones.  I’m too strict when it comes to this whole missionary thing!  I just need to loosen up and relax and have fun preaching the gospel.  It’s hard though because the maniac missionary I want to be and the missionary I am are very far from each other.  I guess it all goes back to the whole patience thing again.  Therefore, I will continue to strive to be more patient!  I am excited for the baptisms we have coming up though!  Most likely it will just be one — Alvera Birang Birang on May 30 but more are on their way!  It is exciting to see the people you love get baptized.
This last Tuesday was Zone Conference!  That was fun!  The messages were things I needed to hear and President Daquioag’s message about obedience was particularly exceptional!  I know I have written to you all about this before but the more and more I am out here the more and more importance I see in it and that is enduring to the end — FAITHFULLY enduring to the end.  The whole reason we are down here on this earth is to be tried and tested to make it back to our father’s presence so why risk EVERYTHING by getting caught up in the things of this world???  It is so incredibly not worth it.  We need to do all we can to make sure that we have a place prepared for us in the kingdom of our Father.  How sad it is to me those people that have accepted the gospel and have had the truth but over time have lost it.  And they lost it by not doing the simple things like reading and praying and going to church.  Please don’t let that happen to you.  I know that this gospel and this church is where true happiness is.  I know that we have a living prophet today and buhi ugha Apostles who lead and guide us.  Follow their counsel.
I hope you all have a good week.  I pray and think about you often!
Love, Sister Johnson
PS:  I got Kevin and Kimmies announcement.  I am so excited for them.  Tell them congrats!  And Wobbs I got your 4th page and I get mail every week from you!  Thank you so much — I love it!

Note from Kelsey’s mom:  The following post was a hand written letter sent through snail mail during the time of Kelsey’s ban from e-mailing so it was written before the previous post.  I just received it in the mail (about 3 weeks later).  I believe I still have one more hand written letter to arrive so the sequence of the next few posts are a little off.
